Un pequeño paréntesis sin receta para mostrarles mi querida Mar del Plata. Ciudad sobre la costa atlántica de Buenos Aires, a 4 horas de La Plata (mi ciudad) y a la que visitamos cada vez que tenemos la oportunidad. Yo siempre la consideré como mi segunda ciudad, veranos e inviernos pasados con familia y amigas. Una ciudad llena de recuerdos hermosos. No por nada esta ciudad fue bautizada bajo el seudónimo de ¨La Feliz¨.
Les quería mostrar las tres cosas mas típicas de Mar del Plata, seguramente se me escaparan muchas pero estas son las cosas que para mi son las que mas representan a esta hermosa ciudad. Mas alla de la playa y el maravilloso paseo de la costa, con el casino, casas de piedra y grandes edificios. Yo me refiero a cosas mas concretas. Por empezar en Mar del Plata hay Complejos Balnearios.
Son complejos que ofrecen juegos, entretenimientos de todo tipo y sobre todo las típicas carpas. Todo alrededor de la costa, en el centro y en las afueras, carpas, de colores o blancas. Siempre me pareció algo descontado pero al ir a otras playas en otros países me percate de que las carpas no existen. Estas pequeñas casitas playeras, son por lo tanto la característica numero 1 de Mar del Plata.
La segunda particularidad de Mar del Plata es nada mas y nada menos que el viento. Si, quizas hay mucho viento en toda la costa atlántica, pero estamos acá y el viento nunca falta. Puede ser muy molesto pero las ¨casitas playeras¨ nos protegen. También puede ser muy aliviador cuando uno quiere disfrutar del sol sin estar ¨asandose¨ con el calor sofocante del verano.
También es muy útil para los deportes acuáticos, pero eso lamentablemente no es una actividad que me quede muy bien... y aunque en las caminatas por el costa se nos vuelen los pelos para todos lados y nos quede todo enredado, muchas veces se agradece (para que quede claro, mucho calor suele ponerme un poco de mal humor). Y llegamos a la ultima, pero no por eso menos importante, real y autentica característica marplatense.... Los lobos marinos. Y esto no me lo estoy inventado, de veras que es re tipico!
Tan típicos son que hasta es el emblema de la ciudad, con dos estatuas gigantes en la plaza principal (esa que se ve de fondo en la primera foto). Los lobos marino, y también los leones, estan todos agrupados en el puerto, ellos tienen su playa privada y tienen muy mal olor!!! es que el olor es tan típico como ellos mismos asique uno no se puede quejar mucho, si vas a ver a los lobos un pañuelo es casi obligatorio para taparte la nariz! (ademas acordarse del viento! el pañuelo también sirve para los hombritos).
Y este es mi pantallazo sobre Mar del Plata, aunque hay mucho mas que eso. Hay mate en la playa, hay juego de paletas, playas amplias y laaaaargas, buenísimas frutas y verduras, cafecitos con memoria y.... muuuuuucha vida nocturna! Espero que los que no la conocen puedan ir a verla, es una ciudad maravillosa.

Just a little break (from recipes) to show you my second home town. My beloved Mar del Plata is a city on the Atlantic coast of Buenos Aires and is 4 hours driving from my real home town (La Plata), which for us that means that it is quite “close by”. It is a city full of life and memories (at least for me…), many things lived there and many more to be lived. Who doesn’t like Mar de Plata? Not for nothing it is also called “La Feliz” (meaning literally “The Happy”).
What I intend to do here is to show you the 3 things that, for me, are typical from Mar del Plata. I have chosen these three because it really represents this city but of course there are so many other things! Ok ok… to the point. Characteristic number 1, in Mar del Plata there are Beach Complexes. They are like clubs that have games, shops, bars, etc but the most peculiar thing is that they have tents. All over the coast you can see thousands of them; it is part of the sightseeing. You have them in colors or in white, downtown or in more quiet and faraway beaches. Of course you can sit on the coast with your chair and parasol but the tent is a very comforting choice and it makes you want to stay in the beach the whole day! These little beach houses are thus one of the things that make me think of Mar del Plata the most.
Distinctive number 2; in Mar del Plata there is wind! yeap, a lot of wind my friends. Well maybe this is something particular for the entire Atlantic coast but anyways it makes me feel in my second home town. To tell you the truth it can be really annoying when you are in the beach, but remember the tents… they can protect you and make you have a very pleasant time even though the wind is blowing hard. On the other hand it can be very nice when it is too hot! You can walk the coast, play paddle, etc without roasting! Besides it’s wonderful for those lucky people doing surf, kite-surf etc.
And we got
to the last, but not least, typical thing about Mar del Plata. Here we can find
loads of sea lions that, after searching in the web how it is called in English,
to distinguish them from the normal seal, I found that they are actually called
South American sea lions (
Otaria flavescens). It is so common to see them that it is actually the
symbol of Mar del Plata, you can even find two huge statues of sea lions on the
big square on the coast (the one you see in the back of the first picture).
You can
find them in the port; they even have a private beachJ but…
they smell soooo bad! Be prepared… is part of the show! So this is my overview
of Mar del Plata. Of course there are so so many things I haven’t mentioned,
like huge beaches, mate in the beach, coffees with memory and a lot but a lot
of night life! I really hope you can visit Mar del Plata, it is really a wonderful city.
